This place is great for its flexibility & the online training plus no one giving you constantly orders & if you don't mind little human interaction.

Pros
No set schedule.

Cons
No guaranteed work, Some trips are too far, Needs better compensation for large orders, Low people interaction, App freeze, Many stores don't have aisle.

Instacart is one of my favorite jobs as far as the pay goes we have batch pays that are very low and the tips most of the time are low sometimes you get someone who will tip good. But I do enjoy shopping and delivering groceries and other things that the customer wants in a timely and organized manner.

Not enough pay,.... well Ca. isn't too bad in the city.

Takes forever to get help desk when you have an issue and your holding up the line.

If you accept an order and the store is out of stuff your tip drops or if they don't give you an order until 10:30 and the store closes at 11:00 then in the middle they add extra order to shop . So now you have angry customers because you're not there on time for them and with only half their stuff sometimes ,....
But if you decide to cancel an order it docs your percentage points

Busy stores most of the time it's the traffic that becomes your office.

If you need some extra cash, this is a great way to do so, but, since the pandemic ended, it's not like you can make a decent living off of it. In fact, you'll be lucky to make more then 200 a week. Not to mention, the deadlines are so strict that you'll always be late (which influences the orders you get), unless you ignore customer service. However, if you ignore customer service, you'll get a bad review which pretty much bar you from getting any of the high paying orders (sorry, batches) so it's really a lose-lose situation. And god help you if there is a problem with your order, as their support is about as helpful as a boat in the middle of desert. The only advantage it has is that you can pick it up whenever you want (and before any mentions it, no they don't offer healthcare, those emails just direct you to the public options which you can find with a quick google search).

So overall, I do not recommend it for more then a few orders. Get in, make your money, get out.

This company is horrible to work for.

No support, if you need to speak to customer care, you have to be on a batch. They dont care if a customer leaves a bad rating for no reason. They dont believe us when a customer reports items missing when I as a shopper know that they got every item. They show high paying batches to the same people.

You are not promised to make a set amount, you can totally waste your whole day and gas without getting a batch.

Flexible hours but the pay does not equal the work. They could’ve increased pay when gas prices went through the roof but they chose not to. Response times are relatively slow for support when we are ranked on the speed in which we complete orders.

Agents in chat will commit to helping you resolve an issue when they can’t or get frustrated they’ll just disconnect the chat.

I am still waiting for a call from 2 yrs ago.

It’s by far the easiest to find them when you can observe them in the natural habitat. Real reference calls to previous bosses, subordinates, former co-workers, and suppliers as well as great interview questions will usually expose them. When you find a good manager you should pounce. Punt on the first sign of bad one.

Note, bad managers are excellent at hiding in plain sight and are masters of disguise.

Make the route more fair sometimes your orders are 40mins away for 20bucks remember that’s 40mins there and then if you want to go home that’s 40mins back,

I did data entry for Instacart working remotely. It would be difficult to have this be a full time job as the projects weren’t consistent, but it was pretty easy, fun and pay was fair and weekly.

I’d do it again under the right circumstances.

Instacart full - service shopping is an independent contracting position. You control when you work, you push yourself to do more or tell yourself to stop when you want. But you cannot control the amount of orders being placed and when by customers. Sundays are the best time to work because.. for some reason, people think they still have to get groceries on Sundays when someone else is grocery shopping for them..?

Not a steady flow of orders. I have waited an hour for an order to come through, and it doesn't help that the app wants you to be close to the stores to get an order. I could drive to the store and wait for an order, but if it's not a busy day (Fri-Sat-Sun) or it's not a busy time of day, then you could waste your time and gas for nothing!

It's nice that I've had the app/contracting position since April 2020, and even with a long hiatus at one point (1year+) my contract has not been terminated or anything.

You rarely speak to anyone at the company , Don't really need to. Everything is handled thru the app. Pretty good app although much like the rest. Tipping is a huge problem within these apps. While I am greatly against pre-tipping this is used in factor when accepting trips and driver determines wither its feasible depending on time and distance.

They have done a lot of work to make this better . Used to be customers had 24 hours to change the tip . Now they only have 2 hours to reduce or 24 hours to increase. Problem is people have learned to manipulate the system this way by posting a large tip enticing the driver then reducing it after delivery. Besides that its great

Instacart does not pay nearly enough to maintain wear and tear or gas for your car. The Instacart care/support line is also slow and unhelpful if you have a problem that does not follow a script.

Customers can be frustrating, giving very low tips for heavy and large orders, ofter delivered to a residence that has stairs. Customers will also fraudulently report items as damaged or missing and remove your tip/rate you unfairly.

There is also a lot of competition to snag decently paying orders.

They deactivated my account while I was in the middle of an order at night gps had me in the country middle of nowhere and finally got connected with customer service rep for help in getting a hold of customer they wouldn't answer my calls or texts couldn't find their house so hadn't delivered their stuff csr reassured me it wouldn't be counted against me then next thing I know call is dropped and screen goes blank I couldn't get back in then I received an email saying I no longer employed I tried to fight it but I don't even think they actually looked over any of my comments.

I used to LOVE working Instacart when I started. I used to be able to make $700-$900/week but they let too many people become shoppers for the area and suddenly I could hardly make $200/week.

Instacart was my main source of income for a long time and I used to absolutely love doing it but it forced me to go back out to get a different job to be able to pay all of my bills.

Really wish it could’ve stayed how it used to be, I would’ve stayed working Instacart for as long as the platform continues but $200/week doesn’t pay for much at all.

This question is not really applicable to this position. Your work environment is literally your car and whatever store you are shopping in. Culture varies.

Turn on app, wait for hours on end for a decent order, accept it and get screwed out of pay while dealing with ungrateful customers who get angry when goods are out of stock.

It's not bad if you live in a city. Expect to be underpaid for a lot of deliveries. Many customers tip poorly, and some even lie about not receiving orders/correct items.

Expect long wait times in parking lots when in search of an order in areas which are not heavily populated. Would not rely on this as full-time work unless you know you live in an area where orders are consistent, and where customer's are willing to tip appropriately.

Also, occasionally an order gets cancelled after you have already been in the store shopping, and have a full cart. (this has happened to me enough times to leave a bad taste)

Driving on paved roads and having a internet connection. I did learn a little about the retail industry and also found how dishonest customers can be.

They send me way far away for a little bit of money and I lose internet connection and maps stops working and I can't find the residence and sometimes find myself on dirt roads that are bad for my vehicle for pennies.

I didn't think very fair.

Some days are slow and some aren't , some days have no work, it's a gamble.

I feel that the address should be given when a batch is offered. I also don't like how I shop at one store and have to drive so far for $10 and most of the time they are over 30 to 40 items to shop for

Being put on a time when you know half the things they want is not even there. Then telling me the items might have been at the store 14 hours prior. Then if you have 2or 3 batches at one time not close to each other and then being given a time to deliver

Stressful. Trying to make a decision about what customers want when it comes to replacements

More calmer when I do orders that doesn't leave the store

The pay is poor with inflation kicking in works is very slow and your actually start making less money.Seems like you profitably is capped off I don't see people making 300$ a day it beat's a fast food job but your compromising your car to have a job that grants you flexibility with your job.

I also think the company does not care about there workers because they give double and triple batches you have to juggle so much to make great pay if you want to make 200$ you have to migrate to a great as well as do 5-7 double or triple batches
