The management overworked everyone. Disrespect was a daily occurrence, as well as gossip. Terrible pay, miserable managers who enjoyed embarrassing employees, and a failing corporation that barely knows how to run.
Work was productive at this Sears outlet. There were many customers looking for products to buy for houses that they were rebuilding or fixing up. So customers didn’t want an extended Warrenty. There was also customers coming in for spare parts on broken appliances. So we would be looking up appliance numbers and order the parts.
By far the best job I’ve ever had. Management always tried to work with you, they always tried to promote culture and very flexible. I worked this in high school and college and always was accommodated to keep school as my focus.
The stores are closed now but it used to be pretty good working in receiving there. As long as you were handling your business it was fine, but RTV was frustrating when some returns were lost or stolen.
It started out as a great job but not long after starting you will notice that anytime a customer has a problem that the management can't find an answer too they will you things like make an excuse to go to your van and get out of there.
Leaving the customer upset and calling back in for another service technician (which most likely will be you). The reason for that is you usually only 1 or 2 techs work in the same area.
Customers usually aren't happy when you return another time after ditching them.
It’s the amazing people that kept me here throughout the years. Leadership is very supportive and invested in my success. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for those leaders but even more so for everyone who worked on my team throughout the years. Many became and stayed friends long after they left the company.
Learning opportunities are plenty, collaboration is critical. With a drastically trimmed down headcount, you have to be willing to work cross functional for the greater good. It’s a challenging environment but also very rewarding.
Okay job for your first job. Just have to listen close to what you can do. They told me an hour lunch for working an 8 hr shift and then when I returned, I was fired with not being allowed to explain myself or 2nd chance given. Oh well…on to something better anyway.
I really enjoyed this job after I really became familiar with all the different systems. The idea was odd - the customer was transferred to us when they requested a manager, yet we are not managers.
95% of the time a resolution was possible, I felt we were given many options when it came to finding resolutions.
I began as a part-time catalog phone sales and worked around my class schedule.
Was promoted to PBX operator and took credit card applications. Was promoted to home fashions on floor when store expanded. Management worked with employees. Commission sales associates were not always to work with.
When I was promoted to commission furniture department, it became stressful and I could not meet the quota. I eventually decided to leave as I did not like the person I became with the competitiveness among my fellow sales associates.
The most enjoyable was actually helping people and doing repairs. The least was the 250-300 miles I had to drive each day to get to my assignments. The daily routes were never logically assigned. I drove back-and-forth so much that I couldn't complete my assignments because I sat in traffic!
The job is physically demanding, with many things to do daily.
Every day is different and fun. I walked all my shift all the days. Some of the people that work there are good, except two or three, as the manager and one or two cashiers...
The store is dirty, without security personnel, and with a few employees. There are a lot of shoplifting, and we can't do anything about it. Is like to work in a ghost town.
Their definition of a technician is a salesman with some mechanical skills.
All the company push for our sales of home warranties and clean and maintains. I was hired in as a technician because I know how to work on things and you get no recognition for completing jobs all of the recognition is on what you can sell.
Sears is no longer open in my area! It was just a retail store with Managers changing every few months. My job was in lawn and garden sales . Low hourly pay plus low commission!
As with most of my jobs, employees are severely underpaid for the vast amount of (manual) labor they do, but managers will berate you for not meeting the expected store profit. Forced to stay several hours after shift was over to meticulously undo the mess which customers had left the store in.
