They tell you that you can choose your hours they believe in work life balance but that is untrue. Most employees are nice and I love the energy around the holidays.The employee discount is ridiculous.
They give you a prepaid card but you have to pay full price then get a credit a month later. Total bs and prevents employees buying more.
The worst communication I’ve ever seen. You are treated as a number. If you are accosted by a customer they will not protect you. If that customer complains they will give them a discount though they were screaming profanities.
Long hours to be standing, my legs and back will never be the same. No set schedules even though they could manage it and teams wanted it.
The job is very simple. Answer phone calls and help the customer in any way you can. Once you’re comfortable with that, management gives you an opportunity to make sales, and that is very fun, and it gives you a little extra money in your pocket. Unfortunately, it can get very mundane quickly.
I had a good year with the company, and my manager was one of the best. I was just bored. It didn’t help that I started peak COVID and they started having us WFH. That’s an experience I would never like to do again.
Upper management is extremely unrealistic with expectations and there is horrible pressure placed on you to go above and beyond what is feasible or doable with the resources and staff provided.
Hours are long and overtime is "mandatory" in order to complete the job though you are not compensated. Staff is underpaid and overworked. One of the worst companies I have ever worked for.
AYS is probably the most important department at the store, so you'll get to learn how to do a lot of different things. however managers will get antsy about wanting you to be at the front registers even if there's a lot of things to do in the stockroom.
Department could use more employees if they want anything resembling a balance of front and back of house workers. good for experience but overall not recommended, especially during the holiday season when the idea of "flexible hours" is completely thrown out the window.
Macy's was my first real job in highschool, and was only suppose to be a season job for the holidays. I ended up staying a bit longer than that, but it was a great introduction into customer service and actively listening to problems.
An unrewarding position to say the least, from thefts to destruction of products, after I graduated and started University I decided to focus on my studies and eventually found a job on campus.
I worked as a seasonal employee and it was a zoo. While everyone was friendly, it was obvious the right didn't know what the left was doing. Managers are overworked & underpaid which is typical for retail.
I would never want this to be my full-time permanent job but a few evenings a week during the holidays is a win-win...extra money/store discount.
Budgets have fallen so low to keep this store open. It’s mostly tourist and low life theft happening here which is sad. Most of the stock in store is kinda for show because they don’t hold many sizes.
Due to theft I’m assuming. It’s very basic if you have a return go to the return on the first floor. If you have a purchaser go to the the “let’s check out line” there are no sales associates to help you it’s just bare bones to keep the lights on.
Minimum wage no benefits. Overworked due to skeleton crew. Only good is paid weekly.
I loved working here for my seasonal job. Hopping around to different departments as needed and getting to know all my coworkers. Talking with them as well as customers.
Really helped me in learning how to fold clothes effectively and put away clothes and other accessories in their correct places. The managers were awesome and supported me.
The pay seemed unfair for the amount of hours and overtime I worked while there. Being paid weekly and only $250 at most(and if lucky) with each paycheck for 25-30 hour weeks(while also trying to balance school and home).
You'll be locked in a cage being watched like dog the entire shift. Low pay, cut hours until the holiday season "picks" up. Weird work environment.
It's like your hired in fine jewelry just to give lost prevention and the walk around security something to do. They keep hiring people knowing the company is broke, then tell workers they're training for four weeks so they wont get their full hours.
Now I see why it's a revolving door and seasonal workers don't last longer than 2 weeks because those WHO GET IT, WILL NOT BE PLAYED BY SUCH COMPANY.
It’s an ok Job, if you are looking to work here temporary, it Pays Minimum Wage, Other than that I wouldn’t recommend working here, Management is always making sure you are opening Credits, Most customers already have Credit cards, Management can be a little pushy sometimes, You are standing up all day, Putting clothes back, fixing tables, picking up stuff of the floor, Do NOT work here for 20 Years!!!!!! It’s a temporary Job being on the Cash register and cleaning the store.

The fact that there was little to no training. They sit you in front of a screen to explain to you how the company works. You are never taught about the actual store you have to learn while working.

Mediocre. The team was decent but everyone was definitely there to get paid and nothing else. Understandably.

There was nothing typical. Being a seasonal worker meant that I would work where needed. Sometimes I got to work so hard my hours flew by, others I just stood around for hours.
Good place to work. Most coworkers are great there's some bad apples but those are only the ones constantly seeking validation from managers to the point where they attempt to low key sabotage other employees if the employee outshines them.
Seen it in the fulfillment department, shoe department, and the entirety of the beauty department. Especially beauty, you'd think they'd be more supportive amongst each other but most talk badly about each other very childish especially with their big girl ages and whatnot.
The pay isn't even great for the amount of negative energy they put in to trying to sabotage someone else's work lol.
At my store in particular, we were constantly understaffed and the customers always complained about it. As a full time employee, I was only scheduled 28 hours a week but had to average 30 in order to still qualify for benefits, and there weren't always hours available to pick up.
My managers were also constantly pushing for credit applications even though 95% of my customers already had a Macy's card. Another big complaint from the customers was all the exclusions with the coupons, especially when it came to items marked as specials and how many could be used per transaction.
I had 2 co-workers who would trick people into signing up for a card. One would ask people who already had a store card of they wanted to “upgrade" to the American Express card, but wouldn't tell them it's a whole separate account.
The other would get people who don't speak English to apply without explaining that it was a credit card. Dispite talking to the managers about this, these two co-workers were allowed to continue to scan people just because they brought in credit applications.
Management is terrible and is just as miserable to be there as the entire staff. No real training, a few days of watching useless training videos that don’t help with day-to-day performance activities.
No transparency, you never really know what’s going on in store or with your fellow employees. Most everyone there hates working there and management knows it and chooses to do nothing. There’s never acknowledgement for a job well done, but frequent reminders of what employees could be doing better.
Employees are usually scheduled just shy of being able to take a meal break for day-to-day shifts, and weekly hours fall just under qualifying for benefits. Macy’s does this on purpose.
I wouldn’t recommend my worst enemy work at Macy’s, it’s a miserable place filled with miserable people.
