Worked here as a temp cashier about to become part-time until the location shut down. Especially during school week, everything is fast-paced. There were usual customers being upset, but that's what to expect in retail and those encounters were fairly rare.
Sometimes, lunch would be brought for the workers when they were on break. Management was friendly and reliable whenever I needed assistance. As reliable and friendly were my co-workers, I felt connected and resourceful, especially on the most chaotic days.
The pay was small, but it balances with the various benefits such as bonuses, health and life insurance, and employee discounts even for part-time associates. When it comes to requesting time off, give them a heads-up up to 2 weeks before the requested time. There were also coupons and deals exclusive to the associates. When I was laid off once the location closed, I was offered severance, retention, and also unemployment resources.
Overall, I enjoyed my time working here and I will miss my coworkers and managers. If you're looking for a balanced place to start off with retail and a sense of belonging in the work space, Staples may be the way to go!
If you go to work to work, don’t work here.
They will rather overwork you than tell their other workers to work. And don’t expect to be paid any more than what they say you’re making even if they switch you between departments and different machinery.
Management talk to people like we’re their children and there’s no sense of respect.
Don’t even try to make sense of anything here because you will be overlooked and/or penalized for voicing your opinion.

Everyone that works there works as a family. Staples believes in internal promotion you can Usually find that you have the ability to become a manager usually after your first year, all you have to do is show interest to current management who can allow you to shadow and train for career advancement.
I'm not sure if anybody actually enjoys retail but if you do then you'll probably like it here. They are trying harder to compete with BestBuy so you will see great deals and get lots Black Friday traffic.
However, management does care about you - they only care about profits. That's literally their job. Retail is a toxic environment where if you work the floor at all you'll likely be forced to a new profession after a few years due to the sheer dead end vibes you will get. Even if you're a manager at these places you're still working in purgatory.
It's a GREAT first job, especially if you can get trained in all the new tech or even basic PC repair skills you may not have. Aside from that I would NOT recommend this job to anyone older than 20. If you don't end up getting out early you'll end up miserable working in this profession thinking that this is all you are good at.
If you can actually sell, and you like to sell, GO SOMEWHERE YOU CAN MAKE MONEY!
My position at staples is a Tech Sales Associate and they require training on the position, but the training occurs when a customer turns in a computer to get worked on. I’ve gone weeks without training because of that. I feel like they could train in a hypothetical way.
Such as, a dummy computer and they show you what to do. Other than waiting on training, the only other thing to do is being a regular staples retail employee. You’d just be working register, amazon returns, or restocking the shelves. The overall work environment is great and working there feels nice.
The vibe in the workplace is great. The managers i’ve worked with are great and very friendly.

The team that was assembled there was second to none. I had the best general manager that took great care of his team.
What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Starting brand new in the print dept and running that dept alone while my trainer was on vacation. Afterwards it was great.

Great local leadership, started out a great place and very good team we built but unfortunately our corporate leadershjp has decided to cripple stores with little to no labor.
We waste our most precious resource (time) chasing trends that are already outdated rather than finding a niche and sticking to it. We've also entered into deals with large companies that are self destructive, HP and Amazon in particular.
Dont recommend working there at this time, it seems to be a sinking ship and unless they get into a better position, I dont see them making it to 2025.
Co-workers and I always got along well and we were all there to help each other when in need.
Downside is that upper management and the GM were constantly lazy and always always left us floor workers to deal with the screaming and upset cusromers rather than pull their weight and calm the situation.
GM is awful and avoids responsibility at all costs and has no people skills for the customers nor does he ever show any appreciation for his hard working employees at all.
Overworked and horribly underpaid. Not worth the workload or stress for the paycheck at all.
Worked at staples for over a year and I have to say it’s the worst retail experience to date.
The management (especially at higher levels) are rude and unrealistic. You meet a metric, they increase the metric, then threaten you if not met. Treat their employees as disposable, even though they’re constantly looking for new hires (wonder why…). I had to personally do every single job in the store when it wasn’t in the job description.
The top of this company has no idea what’s going on at the foundation level. A word of common sense to the higher ups, maybe your company would be doing better in the retail world if you didn’t treat them like trash. If you treated your employees better, then the metrics would passively grow with it.
Pay isn’t livable, and raises are far and few between. I genuinely wish the worst for this company, as they treated me horribly as well as their other employees. Don’t expect a growing environment when you don’t treat your workers with the respect they deserve.
Without the bottom level, the top level would be useless.
